Condo Storage Tips and Tricks

With more and more people turning to city living, space is at a premium like never before. The walk in closets, pantries, basements and other storage spaces that are the norm in suburban homes are gone in condos, meaning inhabitants need to get a little creative with how and where they stow their gear. Luckily, Harkraft has some awesome storage tips and tricks that’ll turn your sleek space into a castle.

Under the Bed Storage

When your total living space is less than 1,000 square feet, any space, no matter how tucked away it is, suddenly becomes valuable real estate. The space under a queen size bed can easily amount to 20 square feet- plenty of storage for things like off-season clothing, sports equipment, camping gear, or anything else you can think of that’s small and stowable.

Alternatively, you can spring for a Murphy bed and open up even more space, turning that 20 square feet into daytime free space. Folding it up into the wall gives you a place to do your work or entertain during the day, and doubles as a sleep space at night. Of course, your gear will make the room a little fuller at night but with your eyes closed, you won’t see it.

Use Your Walls

Wall space is one of the most under utilized storage spaces in a condo. Do plenty of entertaining but don’t have the space for a lot of chairs? Hang folding chairs on the walls. Depending on the kind of chairs you get, you can achieve any kind of style, from rustic to sleek and modern. You can also use floating shelves to minimize the bulkiness usually associated with shelves, and then place awkwardly shaped objects on top of them. Try putting them in your kitchen to store large pots, or use bookends to space out your library in the den.

Closet Stowaway

At Harkraft, one of the products we specialize in is making your closet seem much bigger than it is with our top-of-the-line closet organizers. Most average downtown condos have reach in closets, with not space if clothes are hung from the rod as in most closets. But with a laminate or wire shelving closet organizer, you can fit even more of your wardrobe in there much more efficiently.

First, go over a little checklist of what you use your closets for. Is your bedroom closet going to be just for shirts, slacks and ties? Or do you want to expand it and also store shoes, sweaters and jackets? Is the closet by your front door going to be for just cleaning supplies, or will shoes and boots go in there, too? Once you get that sorted, you can find the closet organizer that’s perfect for you, allowing you to maximize your space and enjoy a clutter-free condo.

No matter which direction you decide to go in streamlining your condo, Harkraft offers new customers 25% off their first order!
