Getting Everything You Need Out of Your Garage

The garage is, all too often, a piece of the property that’s neglected in comparison to everything else. It’s rarely insulated, has few if any windows, and stands silently by while clutter and mess amass inside. This last point is almost criminal, as there’s so much space and potential in a garage that’s needlessly wasted across the country. What other room in your house can you point to that’s designed so wide open and flexible to looking however you want it? There are no shortage of storage options for your garage, so let’s take a look at some of them.

One-Car Garage Storage

There’s not a ton of space here, but that’s okay. It means that the options for storage and simple and clear-cut, and you don’t have to waste a lot of time worrying about where to go. While it does mean you’ll have to be a little creative in your storage design, it’s definitely not a huge project by any stretch of the imagination.

One thing you’ll definitely want to start with is overhead storage, as it’s the perfect way to stow gear and equipment you don’t use that often without it getting in the way. Some of the most common items used in overhead storage include skis, snow shovels and other gear used in the winter, but it’s also a good place to put bikes, too. However you format it, just make sure there’s at least a food of room between the top of your car and the bottom of what’s hung; this is good in case you have larger vehicles pulling into your garage.

Two-Car Garage Storage

Now that you have a bit more space, the options of how to model your garage storage open up a bit, too. Overhead storage is still a must, but now you’ll want to think about wall racks or lockers as well. These are easy ways to tuck away equipment so it’s not immediately visible, but still easily accessible.

Just as before, stuff that you don’t use that often or larger items go on the overhead storage racks or hooks, but now the wall racks and lockers are there to hold equipment that you’ll need to get to more often. You can store stuff like lawn and garden equipment, warm-weather sports gear, and cans of paint. These are bigger items that get used on a regular basis, but not everyday.
