How to Clean a Stained Shower

If you’re like me, cleaning the shower is one of your least favorite chores around the house. And by the time you’ve put it off longer than you should, you usually end up having to scrub a lot harder and longer than if you cleaned it more often. So for those of you who procrastinate on this back-twisting, straddle-the-tub job, here are a few tips we have to offer on how to clean a stained shower.

Time It Right
The best time to clean your shower is right after someone has used it, since the steam loosens up dirt and scum and makes it easier to scrub away stains.

Let It Soak
Using your shower cleaner of choice (we like Scrubbing Bubbles), spray the shower enclosure thoroughly and let it sit for up to 10 minutes. Letting the shower cleaner soak for a few minutes will require less muscle on your part to clean the shower.

Scrub Away Stains
If you have a fiberglass shower floor, you know how quickly it can get stained. To remove those dreaded stains, use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser combined with a shower cleaner like Fantastic Orange or a natural cleanser like Bon Ami. Soft Scrub with bleach is also a good product for removing stains, although you’ll need to be careful of the fumes. Whichever product you choose, let it soak into the shower or tub base for several minutes before you try to scrub away the stains.

30-Second Maintenance
The longer you can keep your shower clean, the less often you’ll have to clean it. Whether you have glass shower enclosures, tiles, or shower walls, using a squeegee to wipe down the walls after every shower will prevent soap scum from building up too quickly. It also prevents water spots and keeps your shower looking nice for longer.
